![]() The Joker was a welcomed first coaster of the 2017 season! I love the RMC coasters and the ultra-smooth rides. I made my way to the back of the park and jumped on the only woodie-style coaster much is more steel than wood now, one of the Rocky Mountain Construction coasters called The Joker. All of the rides have some sort of the superhero theme like The Joker, and a Superman coaster. They have dolphin shows and seals exhibits but the DC Comics characters are in full force. Discovery Kingdom used to be Marine Land and a lot of the theming was still there. It was right next to the fairgrounds and looked more like a regional park rather than a big chain. This was a rather small park compared to the big boys like Busch Gardens and Kings Island. I checked in and got my season pass and worked my way into the park. It was also hot! Coming from Alaska, winter was just ending and we were still in the 40s and 50s. I arrived at Discovery Kingdom early on a Friday and the parking lot was already full with buses full of school kids and tour groups. In the next week or so I would be attending the American Coaster Enthusiasts Preservation Conference on the East Coast and one of the parks would be Six Flags Over Georgia so it was a no-brainer to buy an annual pass to the Six Flags family. My first stop would be Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, a short drive from Sacramento. Being a coaster geek, I thought I could get in a theme park or two or three while I was on this trip. The whole family can sit in a round “raft” together for a wild ride through river rapids. In early May I started the third annual Rock n Roller Coaster Tour Across America on my own with a trip to California to take a swift water rescue course for my studies at UAA. Play on splash pads, go on one of the few wet rides, or sit in the splash zone at the dolphin show! Our favorite way to cool off is the White Water Safari ride. Now that it is warming up, it is an added bonus to be able to cool off in the park. On Saturday, you can attend the PEEPS Egg Hunt before the park even opens! Kids can search for eggs with PEEPS in them as well as enjoy music, games, and giveaways. You can also celebrate EASTER WEEKEND at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5. ![]() It will be the perfect time to go! Kids are going to love the new Spring Break Block Party that will be taking place each afternoon in the main plaza! There will be music, dancing, games and Looney Tunes characters! The weather was so comfortable that I have decided spring is now my favorite season to visit Six Flags! The park will be open for SPRING BREAK from March 28 – April 12. Way exciting! Number three – We saw the Temple of the Tigers show for the first time and saw tigers swim. So cute! Number two – my baby (six-year-old) and our friends’ baby (four-year-old) were tall enough to go on a “real” roller coaster, Cobra. ![]() Number one – a new baby dolphin named Apollo was recently welcomed into the park! We were able to get a good look at him through the viewing windows at Dolphin Harbor. I love the variety! We all had such an amazing day and I have tons of photos to share with you. No matter how many times we have been, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom never fails to impress me with their combination of rides, shows, and animals. A couple weeks ago we spent the day with one of our very favorite families at one of our very favorite places, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. ![]()
